:: Album Photoshoot - Behind the Scenes

Here are a bunch of photo's that I just had to share with you. The album Confusion was being mixed and mastered and it was time to start thinking about the album booklet photography.

If you have ever wondered what goes into taking just a few photographs, let me tell you that you don't get it done in just a few hours.

I went to this small town called Khasab in The Musandam, Oman. We literally set up camp for 2 days with my dear friend Toni (Antonia) Malt who does all my make-up, Micheal Kruger who took the shots, Phil and Mark who came along as crew.

The scenery is simply breathtaking. If you have the CD you will recognize the booklet images from all these behind the scenes shots. I really hope you like them, I had an awesome time with the gang over these two days.

Wherever Toni goes she is always so prepared and so organized, she really thinks of everything.

We got started with 'Babe Come On'. We were really lucky to find this abandoned Dhow on the beach just around the corner from our camp.

Next up was the shoot for 'It's Silly'. This was a bit more challenging. After make up and costume change we had to climb up this really dangerous mountain side. Just take a look at the view.

It was time for another make up and costume change and by now it was getting late. We were heading back up another hill close to the camp to shoot 'Femtosecond' at night. We found the lonely tree when got to the top.

Ok, so it is getting really late now and it is time for the last one today 'Fortune Teller'. I wanted to create a gypsy/fortune teller by a camp fire. We finally decided to use the camp site area. If you look at the wall in the first picture, we shot this one just above the umbrella.

After a spooky night in our little camp site it was time to get up really early and start shooting at first light. Out of Control/Confusion was first today and make up for this one took a really long time but it was worth it. Oh and the the water was freeeeeezing by the way and we didn't even use any of those shots!

Last up for this location was 'Hard to be your Woman' and I think it was the hardest of them all. We were all pretty tired by now and this shot took ages to set up. We went back to the Wadi (dry riverbed) where we shot 'It's Silly' and found a dead tree that we managed to stand up with rocks and string. The dry cracked Wadi was perfect but it was getting really hot now.

That was it for Oman. We headed back to Dubai and we all got together again a few days later to finish off the last 2 shots we needed for 'The One' and 'Without You'.

We started with 'The One/Yo Quiero Ser' at old unused beach in Dubai.

We finished with 'Without You' and we took these shots at Madinat Jumeirah, a really really nice hotel in Dubai.

So there you have it! Behind the scenes for the album booklet photo shoot. The only one left is the actual cover shot. From all of the shots we had taken, choosing the album cover was the most difficult. I finally ended up choosing a shot that Guto Avellando took months earlier while I was looking for a location for the whole album shoot. I went to a really rustic part of Dubai called Bastakia and took this shot below. I never expected it to be the one that I would end up choosing for the album cover :)
